The Patriots have released their inactive list and on it are two players who could have had a big part of Sunday's matchup against the Giants. WR Taylor Price and RB Kevin Faulk will not play today.
In addition to Price and Faulk, the Patriots also ruled out QB Ryan Mallett, OL Donald Thomas, LB Dane Fletcher, DL Shaun Ellis and DE/OLB
Ellis has a rib issue that had been bothering him earlier and will not
be available to help with the defensive line rotation. Instead it's Ron Brace and Brandon Deaderick who will see more action on the defensive
line rotation. Until Week 6, both Brace and Deaderick were on the
Patriots Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. Any
additional help they can provide to improve the pass rush can only
Fletcher has been a key part of the special teams with minimal playing
time as a sub in defensive packages. Brandon Spikes has seen
more action in the linebacker rotation.
Cunningham is in an interesting situation. The Patriots
desperately need to improve the outside pass rush, something Cunningham
was supposed to be good at coming out in the Draft. Instead
the Patriots will rely on Rob Ninkovich, Mark Anderson and Andre Carter. Carter and Anderson are tied with 4.5 sacks apiece to
lead the rest of the defense.
The Giants listed the following players out for the game: CB
Prince Amukamara; RB Ahmad Bradshaw; FB Henry Hynoski; C David Baas; OT
Stacy Andrews; OT James Brewer and WR Hakeem Nicks.
Baas, Bradshaw and Nicks are three starters the Giants can least afford
to have miss action. Baas has been the anchor in the middle
of the line, his replacement Kevin Boothe struggled against Seattle.
Bradshaw and Nicks each lead the New York offense rushing and receiving
respectively. Without Nicks, it will be up to the Patriots to slow down
Victor Cruz, Mario Manningham and a combination of Devin Thomas or Jerrel Jernigan. Ramses Barden was also activated
this week from the PUP list.
