FOXBORO
– The New England Patriots re-signed linebacker Tracy White the team
announced Friday. The team also confirmed the signing of free agent
safety Steve Gregory (Chargers). Terms of the deal s were not
immediately available.
White is a ten year veteran, noted
mostly for his special teams play. He contributed to the
Patriots
sub packages on defense, including the 2011 NFL postseason and Super
Bowl XLVI. White finished with 18 special teams
tackles in
2010 and 14 in 2011, second most on the team.
After spending
time with the Seahawks (2003-04), Jaguars (2005), Packers (2006-08) and
Eagles, White joined the Patriots via trade in 2010.
From the team’s Press Release:
The
6-0, 230 pound linebacker was originally signed by Seattle as a rookie
free agent out of Howard in 2003. White came to New England in a trade
with the Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 5, 2010. The Patriots acquired
White and a 2012 seventh-round draft pick from the Eagles in exchange
for a 2012 sixth-round pick. (The Patriots traded the seventh-round
pick obtained in the White trade to Minnesota along with WR Randy Moss
for a 2011 third-round pick (74th overall – used to select Ryan Mallett) on Oct. 6, 2010).
Gregory is a six year veteran,
having spent his entire career in San Diego. Originally signed as a
rookie free agent in May 2006, the 5-foot-11, 195-pound Syracuse
product worked his way into the starting lineup. In 85 games (31
starts), Gregory has recorded 241 tackles, two sacks, four
interceptions, 17 passes defended and three fumble recoveries.
From the Chargers Official Bio:
Gregory
grew up in Staten Island, New York. His father, Steve, and stepmother,
Judy, are both retired from the New York Police Department. However,
both were on active duty when the terrorist attacks of 9/11 struck New
York City. Unsure of his own future in football, Gregory took the New
York City Police test upon graduation from Syracuse.
Gregory’s
hobbies include golf, video games, movies, pool, bowling, darts and
poker. He played baseball through high school as a SS and CF and had
tryouts with the New York Mets and Yankees before enrolling at Syracuse.
