Former Patriots linebacker Junior Seau has died today in his
California home,
according to various news outlets.
Seau
reportedly died from a gunshot wound.
According to multiple reports, Seau
apparently committed suicide. The website TMZ.com reported that the
outlet
learned that Seau texted his kids and his ex wife a day earlier to tell
them he
loved them.
The North County Times reports,
that Seau was found by his housekeeper around 9:30 am (PST).
"He was a local hero ---- he
certainly gave back to the
community and to the youth through his Junior Seau Foundation,"
Oceanside
Mayor Jim Wood told the paper. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to his
family and friends."
Seau, 43, was selected in the first
round of the 1990 NFL
Draft (5th overall) by the San Diego Chargers. He spent 13 seasons in
San Diego
(1990-2002) before joining the Miami Dolphins for three seasons
(2003-05). Seau
spent his final four years (2006-09) in
the NFL as a member of the New England Patriots.
The San Diego Chargers have released
a statement about Seau

"Statement: Everyone at the
Chargers is in complete shock and
disbelief right now... We ask everyone to stop what they're doing and
send
their prayers to Junior and his family.
The outpouring of emotion is no surprise. #JuniorSeau"
Seau leaves behind an ex-wife and 4
children.
