League Relaxes Blackout Rule
The Wall Street Journal first reported the change, which team owners approved in May at the NFL Annual Meeting.
Now home team can avoid a blackout in their local TV market if they sell at least 85 percent of game tickets. Before the rule change, teams teams had to sell out games or receive an exception from the league for the game to be shown on local TV.
League-wide attendance has declined over the past five years, the Wall Street Journal reported.
---Free-agent quarterback Daunte Culpepper, who has not been on an NFL roster since 2009, admitted to the Orlando Sentinel that his playing days are over.
Culpepper, 35,spent the 2010 season with the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the United Football League and was out of football in 2011.
"As far as me playing, I think I am done," Culpepper told the Sentinel. "That part of my book is closed. The next chapter is, I have kids and I will be coaching them."
----Despite the bounty controversy that hit the New Orleans Saints and the inability to sign star quarterback Drew Brees, Saints vice president of communications Greg Bensel said on Twitter that the team has a season-ticket renewal rate of 99.6 percent and a waiting list to purchase suites.
The Saints led the NFL in average attendance as percentage of stadium capacity in 2011
