Game Balls & Goats: Week 17 Bills

Tom Brady (USATSports)

Who did well and who didn't? We hand out our awards for Sunday's game as the Patriots defeated the Bills 34-20.

Each week we nominate (up to 3 of each) Game Balls and Goats for play on the field (or off).  Honorable and Dishonorable mentions are included for those deserving such nominations beyond the three.   Awards can be for anything from play on the field including players, or coaches, to fans in the stands or even the media.  Fans are encouraged to share theirs.

Here are ours:

GAME BALLS

1) LeGarrette Blount -- Breakout game for the big back. Blount's 334 total yards on the day, (189 rushing, 2 TDs, 145 KO returns) set new franchise record.

2) Steven Gostkowski -- Not a good weather day for kickers, yet Gostkowski nailed all four of his attempts and all three PATs.  Set new franchise record of  158 points in a season.

3)  Fans -- Hats off to the fans who showed up and stuck it out in horrible cold, wet conditions at Foxborough

Honorable Mentions:
Julian Edelman -- Wes Welker who?  Over 100 receptions on the year and 1,000 yards.  Completed 2-point conversion as well.
Pass rush  --  though it wasn't always consistent, Patriots managed solid pressure on day, sacking Bills QB Thad Lewis four times
Offensive line -- Logan Mankins was injured, yet returned to finish the game.  O-Line opened holes for Blount's record day.  Brady was sacked just once.

GOATS

1)  Bad Weather -- It's december, this is when it's supposed to snow in New England.  Rain dampened the day.

2)  Tom Brady -- Not really deserving of a full Goat today, but Brady finished  14 of 24 for 122  yards (4.6 avg), 1 TD, 1 INT and a QB rating of  68.4. This was hardly stellar Tom Brady material.  The ground game took a big load off Brady's shoulders.

3)  Fumble Issues: -- Four fumbles on the day for Patriots. Team was fortunate they didn't lose any of them.

Dishonorable Mentions:
Raiders -- for letting the Broncos walk over them on way to top overall seed and new NFL scoring and passing records.
