Patriots Sign James Morris (CSNNE)

Rookie linebacker James Morris has been resigned with the Patriots according to Iowa City Press-Citizen. Morris was picked up as a free agent in May however was released less than a week later after failing a physical. The 6-foot-2, 240 pound linebacker fills the last open roster spot for New England after the release of wide receiver Cole Standford.

“We’re extremely happy. James has gotten through his medical issues and he now has the opportunity that he’s been looking for,” Morris’ father told Hawk Central.

Morris was treated for a blood clot in his leg soon after being let go by the team in late May. In his three years as a starter, the linebacker recorded 400 tackles, 10.5 sacks and six interceptions in his college career.

RGIII Excited for Joint Practices (NESN)

Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III wants to learn as much as possible from New England’s Tom Brady while the pair partake in a set of joint practices before the teams meet for the preseason opener.

“To tell you I won’t be looking at Tom Brady and seeing what he’s doing would be a lie. I’ll be looking at him,” Griffin told ESPN. “…He’s been a great quarterback in the league for a long time, so you want to soak up whatever knowledge from him. If I get a chance to sit down and talk to him, I;d love to, just to pick his brain. But he’s also still playing quarterback in the NFL. It’s a competitive position, a competitive sport. So I don't expect him to give me any groundbreaking secrets.”

Hall Honored by Hall of Fame Induction (boston.com)

Ty Law, one of New England’s most notable cornerbacks, was inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame on Friday. Robert and Jonathan Kraft spoke at the ceremony which also included panel discussion with former players Rodney Harrison, Lawyer Milloy, Tedy Bruschi and Kevin Faulk.

Known as one of the most physical players of his time, the ‘Ty Law rule’ eventually emerged from the league, putting an emphasis on penalties for illegal contact five yards beyond the line of scrimmage for receivers.

"Can there be a higher compliment to a defensive back? No one ever referred to it as the Deion Sanders [rule], or the Champ Bailey [rule],” said CEO Robert Kraft. “While Ty was great at defending receivers deep downfield, he differentiated himself from all cornerbacks with his physical play within the first five yards of the line of scrimmage — and a little more...just a little.”

Law also set the team record for leading the league in interceptions in 1998 and set NFL history by becoming the highest paid cornerback in 1999.

Surrounded by a sea of former teammates and fans, Law graciously accepted his induction. “The only reason that I’m standing here right now today is because of the Patriot Nation, you the fans. You voted for me. That’s the only reason” Law gushed. “There’s no teammates, there’s no coaches. The fans are what got me up here so I can put on this red jacket. And with that being said, ain't no coming back now, Mr. Kraft. I was waiting for that call, but I got this jacket on, so I guess it's over.”
