Big Cuts Sunday!

The Patriots cut three big named veterans in Tommy Kelly, Will Smith and James Anderson on Sunday.

Defensive linemen Tommy Kelly and Will Smith and linebacker James Anderson all received their walking papers as the Patriots look to trim their roster to 75 by Tuesday, Aug. 26.

After spending eight seasons in Oakland, Kelly played in five games last season for the Patriots before injuring his knee Oct. 5 against the Bengals. He had season ending ACL surgery.

Smith spent 10 years with the Saints prior to signing with the Patriots in May. He also missed last season with a torn ACL.

Anderson played six seasons with the Panthers and last season with the Bears before signing with the Patriots in June. He was brought in to provide depth behind Jerod Mayo and Jamie Collins at the middle linebacker position, but he was simply outplayed by younger linebackers like Steve Beauharnais.
