Patriots adding line depth

Posted Aug 6, 2004

The Patriots signed veteran defensive lineman Dana Stubblefield, 33, who played most recently for the Oakland Raiders. Stubblefield missed signicant time during the season with an ankle injury, but was effective when on the field.

Our friends at the Globe pen this news along with the signing of Earthwind Moreland, a former Browns hopeful. Much was made of Moreland's first name. Moreland's mother had an affinity for the pop group Earth Wind and Fire, and decided to bestow that upon her son. You can read more about this promising defensive back in the player profiles.

Expect the Patriots to continue to sign bodies in an effort to shore up the injury laden line. Moreland and Stubblefield are expected to compete for backup positions. Stubblefield, when healthy will try to work his way into the defensive rotation of Ty warren, Richard Seymour, Vince Wilfork, Keith Traylor and Jarvis Green.
