FOXBOROUGH, MA- The New England Patriots released veteran quarterback Jim Miller
and offensive tackle Tim Provost. The team also placed veteran defensive lineman
Dana Stubblefield on the injured reserve list, effectively ending his season.
Miller was signed by the Patriots on July 19, 2004 after not playing during
the 2003. The 10 year vet was the starting quarterback for the Chicago Bears
in 2001 and 2002. Miller also played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Jacksonville Jaguars and the Atlanta Falcons.
Provost was signed by the Patriots in 2003 and spent that season on the practice
squad. He was originally drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the 2003 NFL draft.
Stubblefield was signed by the team in August of this year. He was signed as
a way to bolster a defense which had lost run stopper Ted Washington during
the offseason. Stubblefield played for the San Francisco 49ers, Washington Redskins
and most recently the Oakland Raiders . He was a former first round draft choice
of the niners during the 1993 NFL draft.
