FOXBORO - Corey Dillon and the New England Patriots
have reached an agreement on a new contract to keep Dillon with the team for up
to five more seasons. According to AP wire reports, Dillon's contract calls for
him to receive $10 million guaranteed, with possible bonuses and incentives which
could turn into a total package worth $25 million.
Not a bad deal for a
running back in his 30's. Even Dillon's agent Steven Feldman admitted as much
to the AP. "They stepped up and took care of him, even though he's on the
wrong side of 30," Feldman said. "This deal allows him to end his career
as a Patriot."
Dillon who was acquired by the team in a trade
with the Cincinnati Bengals, played a key role in helping the Patriots repeat
as world champions in Superbowl XXXIX, 24-21 over the Philadelphia Eagles . In
the game, he managed 75 yards on 18 carries and helped the Patriots grind out
the clock. By running the ball with Dillon the Patriots were able to protect their
lead and force Donovan McNabb and the Philadelphia offense into hurry-up mode.

yards in a season. His previous best was 1,435 when he played in Cincinnati during
the 2000 season. He averaged 1,100 yard or better every season except the 2003
campaign where he was hampered by injury.
