Patriots Release
Seven More
By Patriots Insider Staff
FOXBOROUGH In
effect, the first wave or roster cuts consists of two sets of players - those
caught in numbers game and others who were long shots whose best chance lie in
auditing for another team.
By releasing this group, the roster will be trimmed
to the league-mandated 65 limit, not including injury and NFL Europe exemptions
Kick
returner / running back Chad Morton who had been signed by the Patriots to shore
up the special teams, found himself among the cuts in spite of still being on
the Physically Unable to Perform list (PUP). Players on the PUP do not count as
one of the 65 until such time as they are activated. PUP players must be activated
by week 7 of the season, or be placed on the Reserve Injured (I/R) list ending
their season.

rosters to the regular season 53-man limit. All NFL exemptions will end, and players
will either have to be released, or designated as one of the reserve or active
list members. Players on the PUP list may be activated at any time before week
7 of the season at which time they will count against the 53-player limit. Players
on I/R do not count against the team limit, but are ineligible to play for the
rest of the season.
