The New England Patriots have opted to take a patient approach to free agency while other teams fly players in to sign them early. Two players among the many signings this weekend include two Patriot free agents, Andre Davis and Christian Fauria. Both players opted to sign with other teams.

WR Andre Davis

The Patriots have lost two of their free agents to other teams today. In the first move announced earlier, the Buffalo Bills signed Andre Davis. First reported on Patriots Insider that Davis was talking with the Bills on Saturday. The deal was completed and announced by Buffalo on Sunday.

Davis ends his brief career in New England after just one injury-plagued season. He managed nine receptions for 190 yards and 1 touchdown. Two highlights of Davis' tenure came against the Miami Dolphins and the Denver Broncos.

In the regular season finale against Miami, David fielded a kick on the left hash, ran right, turned on his speed and rolled for 65-yard return to put the Patriots back into field position and back into scoring position late in the first quarter. It was the type of play that the Patriots envisioned when they signed the former Virginia Tech speedster.

Another memorable Davis moment came during the Patriots playoff loss to the Denver Broncos. In a game with suspect officiating and an abundance of turnovers, one moment stood out for Davis. It was a long heave by Tom Brady to Davis deep down the center of the field. With Denver's Champ Bailey draped all over his headgear, Davis hauled in a 51-yard connection from Brady to put the Patriots in scoring position. No penalty was called on the play.

Davis will be reunited with his former Cleveland quarterback Kelly Holcomb in Buffalo. Holcomb took over for an ineffective JP Losman during the season last year, and is expected to compete for the starting job.

TE Christian Fauria

Another Patriot agreed to move on from Foxboro, and that was tight end Christian Fauria. Fauria first signed with New England in 2002 after a seven-year run in Seattle.

With the emergence of former first-round pick Ben Watson in 2005, Fauria found himself less involved in the offense than years past. His production slipped as his playing time declined. He managed to play in every game for the Patriots never missing time due to injury, something that couldn't be said for his younger counterparts.

Fauria finishes his career in New England having only caught eight passes for 57 yards in his final season with the team. He did manage two touchdowns. He had 42 starts out of the 64 regular season games he played, and appeared in two Super Bowls.

The Redskins signed the former Patriot to replace the vacancy created by the departure of Robert Royal who joined the Buffalo Bills.
