The New England Patriots have made two more roster moves today. They have parted ways with linebacker Chad Brown and offensive lineman Ryan Krug.

LB Chad Brown

The move with Brown comes as little surprise.

The Patriots have released linebacker Chad Brown. Brown, 35 was a free agent pickup in by the team 2005. Considered a pass rush specialist experienced in the 3-4 defense from his days in Pittsburgh, Brown was moved from his customary outside position to inside to cover for the then-ailing Tedy Bruschi.

Brown never quite got the hang of the defense playing in the middle and was relegated to playing mostly in obvious passing situations. The team parts ways with the 13-year veteran and three-time Pro Bowler after only one season.

The 6-foot-2, 245-pound linebacker was signed by the Patriots as an unrestricted free agent on May 10, 2005. The Patriots were his third team, Pittsburgh (1993-96), Seattle (1997-2004) and New England (2005).

Brown finished his tenure with the Patriots having amassed 54 tackles (35 solo), and 3 forced fumbles. He participated in 15 games with five starts.

Brown's release should free close to $700K in cap space the team could use to acquire other free agents or resign some of their own.

OL Ryan Krug

The team also released offensive guard Ryan Krug. Krug, 23, was signed by the team as an undrafted free agent April 29, 2005. The 6-foot-4, 304-pound former Connecticut Husky spent much of his tenure with the team on the practice squad. After being signed and released three times by the team, he was last signed to the active roster from the practice squad on January 30, 2006.
