Koppen Recaps Jets Win and Looks Ahead

Dan Koppen # 67

New England Patriots center Dan Koppen, took a few minutes as a guest on Sirius NFL Radio this week to discuss the Patriots victory over the New York Jets last Sunday, and the upcoming Chargers game. Koppen, an anchor in the middle of the Patriots offensive line, knew that the Jets game would be a challenge, but it wouldn't be the only one. The coming game against the Chargers isn't any easier.

In their previous contest on November 12th, the Jets manhandled the Patriots offensive line and were able to harass Patriots quarterback Tom Brady by knocking him down, sacking him four times and forcing him to throw an interception in a 17-14 New York victory. This time the Patriots line was ready for the Jets defense.

"We were able to communicate up front and guys knew pretty much where it was coming from and how to get it handled." Koppen said of the Jets pressure.

Koppen was pleased with the adjustments New England was able to make in protection to keep the Jets blitzes off Brady.

"We started out in the no huddle and we wanted to get into the flow of the game real quick," said Koppen of the Patriots' game plan. "We were able to execute our game plan right off the start."

Fast starts are what the Patriots thrive on. They went on to take the lead against the Jets at the half, and extended the margin in the second half for the win. New England is 15-0 all time when leading at the half in the playoffs.

Koppen understand the Patriots will have to get off to a fast start to have any shot in San Diego, one of the best teams in the league.

"They've been the best team from week one to week seventeen," said Koppen of the Chargers. "They've been the most consistent. They've got guys on [defense] that can just flat out play."

Listen in to what else Koppen had to say about the Jets game, his assignment ( DT Jamal Williams) in the Charger game, the challenge next week and even a bit on Tony Romo's misfortune on the special teams play that went awry in the Cowboys loss to the Seahawks last week.
