Poland makes the roster

Recent news and notes from Patriots minicamp this past weekend to rumors and rumblings of potential free agent additions for the team.

Comings and Goings

After the Patriots recent rookie minicamp the team officially signed a pair of tryout players, safety, Dennis Poland and receiver, Chris Dunlap. Both Dunlap and Poland took part in the two-day camp along with two other players who were not extended contracts: receiver, Chris Baker and running back, Chris Vincent.

Poland is a graduate of the Air Force Academy, and served with the US military in 2006. The 6-foot-1, 225-pound defender played for the Academy from 2003 to 2005.

Dunlap, a Georgia Tech product, recorded 13 receptions for 142 yards in his four year career. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound receiver also participated on special teams as a kick returner.

Justin Warren, a Texas A&M product, was signed by the Patriots as an undrafted rookie free agent on May 8, 2007. The 6-foot-3, 237-pound linebacker was honored as a two-time first-team All Big-12 selection. He did not participate in the team drills over the weekend due to an undisclosed injury. Warren failed his team physical and was released by the team on Tuesday.

Possible Comings and Goings

The discussion surrounding Junior Seau over the weekend reached a new height when a report from the San Diego Union-Tribune indicated Seau would take a physical with the Patriots and possibly rejoin the team afterwards. Patriots Insider reported in the weekend minicamp update that Seau's locker appeared to have a number of personal belongings in it, which added more momentum to the Seau to New England rumor.

Head coach Bill Belichick refused to comment on the Seau story over the weekend. When asked about the report Belichick simply said: " I'll talk about the players that are here."

In addition to the Seau rumor, ESPN reported that free agent receiver Keyshawn Johnson might be an option for the Patriots. The report indicated that Johnson's prior working experience with Belichick from their time with the New York Jets might be the connection necessary to get the often-controversial veteran to Foxboro.

Insider analysis on the possibly of Johnson's arrival in New England can be found in the Insider's Lounge and the Rumor Mill archives.
