Troy Brown officially returned to the team he has spend the past 14 seasons with, the New England Patriots. The 36-year-old Marshall product signed a one-year contract according to reports, and will look to build upon his team record 557 career receptions. Brown is second on the teams career receiving list with 6,366 receiving yards, second behind only Stanley Morgan (10,352).
A versatile player, Brown has amassed stats not only as a receiver, but also as a punt returner and a defensive back. Brown holds another team record with 246 career returns for 2,570 yards. He has recorded three interceptions and five passes defended.
Brown returns to the team after rehabbing an injured knee. He had off-season surgery to repair a damaged ligament, and stated publicly that he would return once he was physically ready.
More Rookie Signings
Linebacker Justin Rogers signed his rookie contract. Terms of the deal were not available. Rodgers, 23, was selected in the sixth round (180th overall) during the 2007 NFL Draft. The 6-foot-4, 250-pound SMU product appeared in 44 games for the Mustangs with 26 starts. He recorded 183 tackles (117 solo) and 19.5 sacks. He also manages 5 forced fumbles during his collegiate career.
Running back Justise Hairston also signed his contract. Adam Caplan of Scout.com confirmed that the Central Connecticut State product received a three-year deal with a $55,500 signing bonus and base salaries of $285,000 (2007), $370,000 (2008) and $460,000 (2009).
Hairston, 24, was drafted in the sixth round (208th overall) during the 2007 NFL Draft. The 6-foot-1, 220-pound ball carrier set a CCSU school rushing record of 1,847 yards and 20 touchdowns in 2006.
The Patriots have three draft picks who have not yet been signed; Brandon Meriweather (1st round), Kareem Brown (4th round) and Mike Elgin (7th round).
