Tuesday's admission that a number of players nursing injury would not be ready for training camp came via the PUP list. Richard Seymour, who had been nursing an injury at least since minicamp, was the most notable name on the list. Others such as wide receiver Troy Brown are rehabbing from off-season surgery.
Eight players were included on the list: Seymour, Brown, RB Justise Hairston, TE David Thomas, WR Chad Jackson, WR Kelley Washington, DB Eddie Jackson and S Mel Mitchell.
The PUP list allows players returning from physical ailments time to rehab their injuries. Players on the list may not participate in team practices, but are allowed to attend meetings and team walk-throughs. If they remain on the list at the start of the season (after final roster cuts), they are not allowed to return to the active roster until after week six of the regular season.
Seymour's absence from the two-a-day routine of camp is not unusual. Along with a number of other players, he missed time during last season's camp and told the media that he would be ready to go for the start of the season. He was, returning later in the preseason.
Seymour, Chad Jackson, Eddie Jackson, Mel Mitchell and David Thomas did not participate in the team's veteran minicamp in June. Troy Brown was signed to the team just last week. Hairston and Washington were both part of minicamp in June.
