Randy Moss suffered an apparent leg injury during practice at Patriots training camp today. The news, as bad as it could be, came early during practice and may or may not be serious.

FOXBORO, Mass. – Wide receiver Randy Moss had to leave the practice field today at Patriots training camp due to what appeared to be an upper leg injury. The attention Moss received from trainers and his teammates indicated that the former Minnesota star may need additional treatment. No news was available on Moss' status and it is team policy not to comment on player injuries.

The injury occurred when Moss ran a deep pass pattern down the middle of the field during team drills. Moss streaked down the field side-by-side with safety James Sanders, looking back as the ball approached. At the point where Moss would normally turn in to make the catch, he ran straight ahead instead and let the ball fall to the ground next to him. Moss had Sanders beaten but made no attempt to catch the pass.

Moss walked to the sideline after the play with his helmet off. He lingered on the sidelines for a few minutes getting his upper left leg wrapped by trainers. After speaking with head coach Bill Belichick, Moss headed to the locker room alone.

The Patriots acquired Moss in a draft day trade that brought the controversial star receiver to New England. Since his arrival, he has been the undisputed top receiver on the Patriots' roster. Quarterback Tom Brady has showered praise on Moss since his arrival and has spoken well of his progress in training camp.

"It's been good thus far," Brady said late last week. " I'd like to hit him a few more times - I think I missed him a few times - but for the most part we're making some improvements."

The improvements were obvious, as nearly every pass Brady threw to Moss earlier in the practice went for a completion. A deep pass down the middle of the field to a wide-open Moss was a sure touchdown. Another sideline catch in tight coverage over Randall gay went for a big gain. Moss made spectacular grabs look almost routine.

The possible injury to Moss would leave the Patriots without their top target on offense. New England already has two receivers on the PUP list in Troy Brown, Chad Jackson and Donte Stallworth. The team has gone from a position of strength to having depth issues again.

It's a good thing that it's still early in training camp.
