Patriots Acquire DB Wesley From Bears

The Patriots trade for a defender while the runnign back they reelased, gets claimed off waivers.

FOXBORO, Mass. -- The New England Patriots acquired defensive back Dante Wesley from the Chicago Bears on Tuesday. Wesley joins the Patriots for an undisclosed draft pick.

By the time the trade was announced Tuesday afternoon, the assembled media had already noted that Wesley was wearing number 38, and was on the field practicing with the Patriots.

Wesley signed with Chicago (2006) as an unrestricted free agent after spending four seasons with the Carolina Panthers (2002-05). In 71 career regular season games the 6-foot-1, 210-pound defender has managed 57 career tackles, 1 sack, 13 passes defensed, and 45 special teams tackles.

Second year running back Quadtrine Hill was claimed off waivers by the Chicago Bears on Tuesday. The 6-foot-2, 230-pound ball carrier was caught up in a numbers game at fullback with the return of TE/FB Garrett Mills to the lineup, the acquisition fo RB Sammy Morris and the return of FB Heath Evans.
