LB Chad Brown returns for his second season with the Patriots. He was signed during the off-season and participated during New England's 2007 training camp, but was released on September 1, 2007. In 2006, Brown spent time with New England before being released prior to the season and picked up by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He appeared in eight games for Pittsburgh.
The 6-foot-2, 245-pound linebacker originally signed with the Patriots as a free agent on May 10, 2005. Brown and Monty Beisel started at the inside linebacker positions in place of Tedy Bruschi and Ted Johnson. Brown managed 54 defensive tackles even after moving to a reserve role when Bruschi returned.
The 15-year veteran was originally selected by the Steelers in the second round of the 1993 NFL Draft (44th overall). He played for the Pittsburgh Steelers (1993-96) and Seattle Seahawks (1997-2004), before joining New England in 2005.
DB Gemara Williams was originally signed by the Patriots as an undrafted rookie free agent on May 8, 2006. The 5-foot-8, 185-pound defender missed his rookie season after suffering an injury and being placed on the team's Reserve/Injured list. The former University of Buffalo product participated in the Patriots off-season activities and the team's training camp. The Patriots released him on August 18, 2007. The versatile defender played corner, nickel back and safety for the Patriots in training camp.
OL Dan Connolly was originally signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent on April 24, 2005. The 6-foot-4, 313-pound center played in four games his rookie season (2005) and spent his entire 2006 season on injured reserve.
LB David Herron was released by the Minnesota Vikings on September 1, 2007 as part of the team's final round of roster cuts. He was acquired off waivers by the Patriots and signed to their active roster. The 6-foot-1, 240-pound linebacker was inactive for New England's game against the New York Jets on Sunday. The Vikings originally signed him as an undrafted free agent on May 4, 2007.
