FOXBORO -- The New England Patriots resigned defensive tackle Rashad Moore on Tuesday. Terms of the deal were not available. In addition, the team released safety Rashad Baker and cornerback Eddie Jackson.

The re-signing of Rashad Moore is an indication the Patriots needed to add depth to their defensive line behind nose tackle Vince Wilfork. Since Mike Wright was placed on the reserve/injured list with a foot injury, New England worked out a number of players including Moore. The 6-foot-3, 325-pound defender spent time with the team in training camp this summer. He was released as part of the final round of roster cuts.

The Patriots also opted to part ways with safety Rashad Baker and cornerback Eddie Jackson. Baker was claimed off waivers from the Minnesota Vikings in 2006. He participated as a reserve defender last year, and re-signed with New England in March. Baker had been nursing injuries this season, missing the past two weeks on the inactive list. Baker participated in 8 games this season, managing 10 team tackles and 4 special teams tackles.

Cornerback Eddie Jackson signed a deal with the Patriots in the 2007 off-season with the hope of finding a spot on the roster after rehabbing a knee injury he suffered as a member of the Miami Dolphins in 2006 (Torn ACL). Jackson began the season on the PUP list and was activated off the PUP list on November 7, 2007. The 6-foot, 200-pound defender participated in three games for the Patriots, recording 1 defensive tackle and 4 special teams tackles.

The decision to release both Baker leaves the Patriots with 4 safeties on the active roster (Rodney Harrison, James Sanders, Mel Mitchell and Brandon Meriweather) and one on the practice squad (Ray Ventrone). Releasing Jackson leaves the Patriots with 3 cornerbacks on the active roster (Randall Gay, Ellis Hobbs and Asante Samuel) and two on the practice squad (Tim Mixon and Antwain Spann). In addition defensive backs Willie Andrews and Eugene Wilson can fill in at either position as needed.
