The New England Patriots released veteran linebacker Chad Brown on Thursday. Brown participated in 2 games for the Patriots this season. The move leaves a roster spot open heading into the weekend's season finale.
Brown, 36, returned for his 15th NFL season when he agreed to join the Patriots during camp this past summer. He was released as part of the final round of roster cuts. He was re-signed, two more times through the season. He participated in two games for the Patriots this season (San Diego 9/16 and New York Jets 12/16), recording two special teams tackles.
Brown first joined the Patriots in 2005, becoming the team's starting inside linebacker. Since, he has played for the Steelers and the Patriots mostly as a reserve defender.
In his career, Brown has played for the Pittsburgh Steelers (1993-96, 2006), Seattle Seahawks (1997-2004) and New England Patriots (2005, 2007).
