Roster cuts force teams to make hard choices. Sometimes those decisions come back to bite the team that let the player go.

When the Bengals released 12-year veteran right tackle Willie Anderson last weekend, coach Marvin Lewis said, "It may not be over."

He was right, in a sense. When the Bengals take the field Sunday, Lewis can visit with Anderson -- if he treks over to Baltimore's sideline. Anderson isn't likely to play in the regular-season opener, but he did sign a three-year, $10.5 million contract to help bolster a significant weakness for one of the Bengals' division rivals.

At least Cincinnati won't have to face former running back Rudi Johnson. He was cut along with Anderson, but signed with Detroit, who the Bengals don't play during the regular season.

Cornerback Deltha O'Neal was also jettisoned by the Bengals, but might have latched on to a better situation in New England. Then again, the Patriots signed veteran defensive backs Fernando Bryant and John Lynch only to cut them loose. Another veteran cornerback, Ricky Manning, Jr., signed with St. Louis after being let go by Chicago.

Many of the others big names who didn't make final rosters are still seeking work.

Quarterback Chris Simms was finally granted his released by Tampa Bay. He was immediately tied to rumors that had him returning to the stomping grounds of his father, Phil, with the Giants, but that has yet to come to fruition with the Giants already winning their season opener. However, he reportedly visited with Baltimore this week.

Chad Jackson, a second-round pick by New England in 2006, worked out for the receiver-thin Raiders, but was not signed. Oakland coach Lane Kiffin said Jackson was "on file."

Fellow receiver Roydell Williams won't be signing with anyone soon. Williams tied for the Titans' lead in receptions last season, only to suffer a broken ankle in January. When he struggled to get back to his previous form during training camp, Tennessee released him.

White's agent is considering filing a grievance against the Titans, claiming the Titans cut Williams while knowing he had suffered a setback with the ankle and that his client is in no shape to sign with another team at this time.
