New England Patriots DB Jason Webster was placed on the reserve/injured list with an ankle injury the team announced today. The 5-foot-9, 187-pound cornerback played in three games for the Patriots this season.
Signed by New England as a free agent on March 3, 2008, Webster was released prior to the start of the regular season. He was later re-signed on November 5, 2008. The nine-year veteran has played on four NFL clubs: San Francisco (2000-03), Atlanta (2004-06), Buffalo (2007) and New England (2008).
Webster is the second cornerback, and fourth defensive back to be placed on I/R by New England. The others are: S Tank Williams, S Rodney Harrison, and rookie CB Terrence Wheatley.
Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe first reported that free agent linebacker Rosevelt Colvin was in town for a visit with the Patriots.today. Colvin was released by New England in a cap cutting move earlier this year. He signed on with the Houston Texans but was released prior to the season.
The team's interest in Colvin may be construed as a sign that the injury bug is taking its toll on the Patriots linebacker unit. Adalius Thomas has been sidelined for three weeks with a forearm injury. OLB Pierre Woods had to leave Sunday's game against the Steelers with what was deemed a mouth injury. LBs Eric Alexander, Shawn Crable and Bo Ruud were placed on reserve/injured list earlier this season and the team has already called up the only linebacker on the practice squad (Vince Redd).
