Game Balls and Goats are our awards for positives and negatives each week. The staff puts these together based upon what we saw before, during and after the game. These are the GB&G for New England's week 17 victory over the Buffalo Bills.
LaMont Jordan and Sammy Morris - Why a dual game ball? Because they both contributed enough to get the job done today. Morris turned in a 24 carry 85 yard performance while Jordan added 64 yards on 20 carries and a touchdown.
Patriots Offensive Line - When crediting the backs, one must take a look at the blockers in front of them. New England used 47 of its 55 offensive plays to run the ball. The ground game was effective enough to continue using it as the game wore on.
Patriots Defense - For pitching the first shutout of the Bills at home in 25 years. It was the 1983 Patriots who last shutout the Bills at home in October 1983.
Randy Moss - Moves up on the all time receiving yards list to 9th place with 13,201 yards behind Henry Ellard who is 8th on the list. Moss also broke the 1,000-yard make for the 9th time in his career tying the second best record behind only Jerry Rice's 14 seasons.
Matt Cassel - Another efficient operation. Only 8 pass attempts and he completed 6 of them. Cassel converted key fourth downs with his legs and his arm to get eh pats into scoring position. Cassel's 57-yard punt to pin the Bills on their one was a great call
Patriots Coaching staff - On offense, defense and special teams the Patriots seemed to have an answer for the crazy weather conditions. .
The Weather - It would have been a more interesting game had the weather been more accommodating.
CBS -- For moving the Jets game back three hours forcing the Patriots to sit and watch while the Jets knew they were out of the playoffs.
