Malone returns after the team released rookie punter Aaron Perez last week. Perez, a UCLA product, was signed after a tryout at the team's rookie minicamp in May. He was released on Friday.
With Malone back on the roster, the Patriots now have a strong leg to compete for the starting duties with incumbent Chris Hanson.
