No first-year coach in recent memory was more controversial before his team even played a game than Josh McDaniels. He's also one of the most successful rookie coaches out of the gate.
After a feud with quarterback Jay Cutler led to the franchise quarterback being traded to Chicago, McDaniels engaged in a summer-long standoff with wide receiver Brandon Marshall. McDaniels came under intense scrutiny in the press and among Broncos fans before training camp arrived, and it only intensified during a 1-3 preseason.
Incredible how quickly winning changes perspectives. The Broncos improved to 4-0 and quieted many of their remaining skeptics by knocking off Dallas on Sunday.
"I'm not surprised with anything that's happened here," Broncos running back LaMont Jordan said. "We have a great core group of guys and I know this formula works. I played against it my first four years with the Jets, I played for Coach (Bill) Belichick in this formula last year (in New England), so I know it works."
--The scariest moment Sunday came when Ravens left tackle Jared Gaither was carted off the field with a neck injury. He was too big to fit in an MRI machine, but X-rays were negative and Gaither traveled home with the team. He's expected to be fine, but rookie right tackle Michael Oher would switch to the left side if Gaither isn't ready to play next week.
--The Giants received a scare when quarterback Eli Manning left with a heel injury in Kansas City. Coach Tom Coughlin said after the game that Manning could have returned to the game if needed, and he's expected to be ready to go for Week 5.
