Jarvis Green Has Knee Surgery

Patriots defensive lineman Jarvis Green underwent knee surgery last week according to a published report. He could miss the next month of games.

Patriots Could Lose Green For A Month

According toe CSNNE.com's Tom Curran, Patriots defensive end Jarvis Green underwent knee surgery and could miss most of the team's brutal five-game stretch. The report cites an unnamed source that said the surgery could keep the defender out until mid December.

Green, 30, was selected by the Patriots in the fourth round of the 2002 NFL Draft out of LSU. Playing mostly as the team's fourth defensive end and on a rotating basis, the 6-foot-3, 285-pound lineman has been asked to fill a greater role after the departure of Richard Seymour, who was traded to the Oakland Raiders.

When asked about the surgery, Green admitted to reporters Tuesday that he indeed had surgery on his knee.

Green has started every game at right defensive end for New England, even when the team moved to a 4-3 front.

The Patriots appear to be well stocked at the position. With Mike Wright seeing more time on the outside, rookie Myron Pryor on the inside, the Patriots appear to be able to weather the storm without Green.

Green has seen his playing time decrease since participating in nearly 80% of the team's defensive snaps against the Broncos. He has played less that 25 plays each of the past two games.

Green is tied for 10th on the team with 18 totals tackles. He has no sacks and no forced fumbles. The 8th year veteran is signed through the remainder of the 2009 season and could become a free agent next season.
