Patriots Put Tate On I/R, Promote Stanback

Brandon Tate

FOXBORO -- WR Prandon Tate's season has officially come to an end. The Patriots announced that Tate has been placed on injured reserve. WR/QB Isaiah Stanback was signed to replace him.

New England wide receiver Brandon Tate's knee injury has ended his rookie season. The Patriots placed him on reserve / injured Saturday after just two games on the active roster. The team promoted WR/QB Isaiah Stanback from the practice squad to take Tate's spot.

Tate was injured in last Sunday's win over the Miami Dolphins. The injury sidelines the rookie after two games back from the reserve non-football injury list. Tate's primary duties came as past of the Patriots kickoff return unit. Tate finished with four returns for 106 yards.

Tate's promising season came to an end almost as soon as it began. The Patriots took a chance on Tate after he slipped in the Draft due to the injury suffered his senior season in college. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound WR/KR was selected by New England in the third round (83rd overall) out of the University of North Carolina.

Filling in for Tate on the roster will be Stanback, a former college quarterback turned wide receiver by the Dallas Cowboys. Stanback opted to sign with the Patriots after being released by Dallas, partly due to the promise that Stanback could pursue playing quarterback, as he did in College at Washington.

The 6-foot-2, 208-pound dual threat was originally selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the fourth round of the 2007 NFL Draft. He was signed to the Patriots practice squad in September.
