Here's the latest on events for Thursday, the second full day of free agency.

15 Minutes with Jarvis Green

WALPOLE, MA--If you listen to back-up DE, Jarvis Green tell it, if he has his way he'd play for the New England Patriots for a long time. Now Green, in a contract year, just might get his wish. According to reports, the Patriots tendered a mid-level contract offer to Jarvis Green for $1.43 million on Tuesday March 2, 2005.

This means Green has the right to negotiate with any other team, but the New England Patriots have a right to match any offer. If the Patriots decline the offer, they will be given a first round draft pick as compensation. Green has 60 days, or until April 15, to negotiate with other teams. If he does not negotiate another deal then the rights will revert back to the Patriots.

The 6'3, 290 pound Thibodeaux, LA native Jarvis Green came to the Patriots as a fourth round draft pick (126 overall) in the 2002 draft out of Louisiana State University. The Patriots acquired this pick from the Green Bay Packers in the Terry Glenn trade.

The Patriots Insider caught up with Jarvis Green on the telephone at his home in Massachusetts Tuesday night to discuss with the Patriots' Defensive End his road to winning two Superbowls, his thoughts one teammate Tedy Bruschi, his internship at Rolls Royce Naval Marine in Walpole, and whether or not he's worked on his TD dance.

Old Friends Moving On

Yesterday, news from Cleveland came that Joe Andruzzi had traveled to Ohio to speak with former Patriots assistant coach Romeo Crennel who is now the Browns head coach. Andruzzi apparently liked what he saw, not only in the team, but the offer the team made. Andruzzi agreed to join the former Patriots coach, and try to help rebuild a woeful offensive line that has gained notoriety for it's lack of cohesiveness.

Reports indicate that Andruzzi agreed to a deal which will net him approximately $9 million over four years. It's unlikely the Patriots or many other teams would have matched that type of offer for the 29 year old out of Southern Connecticut, but the Browns needed Andruzzi in a bad way, and it's hard to fault a player for enjoying the fruits of his labor.

An early report of Patriots wide receiver David Patten testing the market appears to have come full circle. Earlier in the day, the tipline started heating up with news that Patten might be real close to a deal, but without specifics we weren't able to confirm details until this evening when Scout.com experts put the story in the HOT NEWS for subscribers. It appears that the deal has been completed, and Patten will not be a Patriots next season. He'll be in Washington with the Redskins, competing for a #2 or #3 position.

At best Patten was getting signals that the Patriots were looking to upgrade the wide receiver position, and Patten didn't see himself as having to fight to break into the rotation behind a healthy Deion Branch and a returning David Givens. With one speedster already on the roster in Bethel Johnson, and the team signing and allocating two other receivers to NFL Europe, Patten probably knew his prospects were better in another NFL market hungry for receiver help. Team Tenders RFAs

The Patriots have a number of other offensive linemen who are restricted free agents and could conceivable move on. Andruzzi was an unrestricted free agent, meaning the team will receive no compensation for his departure. The other linemen are restricted players who have been tendered offers. By tendering restricted free agents, the move will bring the team compensation in the form of draft picks if they sign with another team. One cornerback in the mix

According to reports out of the desert, Arizona Cardinal, CB Duane Starks will be traded to the Patriots for a 3rd round draft pick. First heard on the message boards, this rumor appears to be a true story, with the Arizona Republic, Sports Illustrated and ESPN reporting the facts of the deal.

Starks, once considered a top flight talent who helped the Baltimore Ravens win their first championship, signed on in Arizona to help a much maligned franchise. According to word on the street, Cardinals head coach Dennis Green wanted to make the deal because of concerns that Starks spate of injuries marked him as questionable in terms of durability. Many cornerbacks out of the mix

The Patriots, who earlier had released Troy Brown, and Ty Law are in need of upgrading their secondary. In order to complete the season last year, they signed street free agents, Earthwind Moreland and Hank Poteat and moved Brown to defense just to field enough bodies for pass coverage.

While Brown may resign at a lower price, Law is busy shopping his services other bidders, one of which appears to be Kansas City, where Law was heard on a radio interview a short while after being given his official release.

Yesterday Law was on Boston Radio claiming never say never to the possibility that he might return as a Patriot someday, but for now he's looking to make a fresh start.
