Patriots defensive lineman Vince Wilfork will not be suspended by the NFL for his questionable hit on Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler according to reports. A report by Profootballtalk.com cites an unnamed source who said NFL commissioner Roger Goodell reached an understanding with Wilfork on the defender’s hits and his concern for player safety.

Wilfork met with the commissioner on Tuesday to discuss Wilfork's style of play, and to address the Cutler hit. According to sources familiar with the tapes the Broncos sent in, Wilfork's late hit could not be seen clearly. Without clear visual evidence, the Commissioner would be unlikely to suspend the Patriots defender, but a fine is still likely.

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick declined to comment on the findings Wednesday in his press conference at Gillette Stadium.

“I really don't have any comment on that,” Belichick offered. “I think we will leave that to the league [and] whatever they have to say about it. Really, it is a league matter.”

Wilfork spoke to reporters on the issue.

"The meeting (with Godell) was productive," said Wilfork as he sat surrounded by reporters at his locker. "I think both sides were happy. (Godell) got a chance to hear my side and how I approach the game, I got a chance to hear what he had to say about the whole situation of my past history and playing football and all that good stuff. I think we both left pretty happy."

One point Wilfork emphasized was his determination to play hard.

"I play hard, and that's one thing I stressed to him, I'm very passionate about the game," Wilfork explained. "Sometimes it might be too hard, and I told him that."

Will the meeting change the way the massive run stopper plays? Probably not. But he knows he needs to clean up his reputation as opponents have taken their battle with him from the field to the league office.

"I told him (Goodell) I'll try to change my style up a little bit, and hopefully, get a better slate," Wilfork admitted. "But right now, I got a pretty bad one out there."

Wilfork will liekly hear about a possible fine on Friday, the day the league prefers to announce action against players.
