Bengals Preview With Adam Caplan
Interview 9/27/07

The New England Patriots dominated division rival Buffalo last week while the Cincinnati Bengals struggled in their loss to the Seattle Seahawks. New England scored 38 points for the third straight game, while Buffalo only managed to get on the board once to establish a 7-3 lead. It was the last time the Bills would be able to score as New England rolled up another 35 points to advance to a 3-0 record.

Cincinnati has the weapons on offense to score points. They proved that when Carson Palmer hooked up with Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh against the Browns when Palmer threw for 6 touchdowns and over 400 yards while Johnson hauled in 11 of those passes for 209 yards and a pair of scores. Houshmandzadeh also managed a pair of touchdowns that week.

Palmer threw for over 300 yards again last week against Seattle when he completed 27 of 43 attempts for 342 yards 1 touchdown and a pair of interceptions. Both Houshmandzadeh and Johnson managed to turn in 100-yard games, but Cincinnati was unable to score enough points to put the Seahawks away. It wasn't as much the Bengals offense which led to the loss as the defense which was unable to hold onto a 4 point lead with under three minutes to go.

Here are some of the questions we posed to NFL Insider Adam Caplan in the middle of the week:

  • How well will the Bengals rushing attack fare without Rudi Johnson in the lineup?

  • Do the Bengals have enough talent to establish a running attack without Johnson?

  • How will the Patriots keep Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh under wraps?

  • What type of defense can we expect out of the Patriots defense, Blitzes or straight defense?

  • How can the Bengals attack the Patriots and find success?

  • How will the Bengals defense Wes Welker?

  • Is there a coaching watch in Cincinnati and does Marvin Lewis have to worry?
  • More on the Bengals - Patriots matchup, as well as concerns with the personnel in Cincinnati and what the Bengals need to do to get their season back on track.
