How Acquired: Signed by the New England Patriots in the fourth round
(126th overall) 2002 draft (7/18/02). Patriots acquired the fourth round pick
from Green Bay when they traded WR Terry Glenn. Scouting Report:
Good athlete with a nice size-speed package. Has a quick first step and can get
into the backfield. Ability to learn complicated defensive assignments and seal
the corner. He is the only Patriots DL to have recorded 2.5 sacks against 2003 AFC co-MVP Peyton Manning in a playoff game. Pro Experience: New
England Patriots (2002-Present) 2004:
Green played in all 16 games and started 1 game when Richard Seymour went down against the NY Jets. Green registered three tackles, a sack, a pass defended and a fumble recovery in the Patriots' 40-22 win against the Rams. Against the Ravens, Green collected a tackle and recovered a fumble for a TD in the Patriots' 24-3 victory; his first career TD. In the 2004 post season Green started at DE against the Colts and registered two tackles. In the AFC Title game, Green had 5 tackles (3 solo), a sack and a forced fumble against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
2003:Green played in all 16 games starting 7. He notched 20 tackles (14 solo) in the regular season, including two sacks and a pass defense. Green set career highs with six tackles (5 solo) and 2.5 sacks in the AFC Championship Game against the Colts on 1/18/04.In Super Bowl XXXVIII against the Panthers, Green registered a pass defense and pressured Carolina QB Jake Delhomme with a strong pass rush, forcing an incompletion. 2002: Green played in 15 games, including four starts, and recorded 21 tackles. His debut was against the Pittsburgh Steelers and his first NFL start was at Miami. Green recorded his first pro sack, along with a forced fumble and four tackles (3 solos) in the Patriots 30-14 win over the Steelers on Monday Night Football. College Experience: LSU (1998-2002) Green established an LSU freshman record for QB sacks with eight for minus 46 yards. Green started 10 games at right DE and ranked sixth on team with 50 tackles (36 solos). He also ranked on team with 17 stops for losses of 73 yards.
He ranks fourth on LSU's career-record list with 20 QB sacks for minus 123 yards. Green Started 39 of 41 games for the Tigers, recording 184 tackles (108 solos) with 38 stops for losses of 165 yards. In 2001 (Senior) Green was voted second-team All-Southeastern Conference selection by the league's coaches. That year Green started in all 13 games at right DE and recorded 52 tackles (29 solos). He led the team with four sacks for minus 28 yards and 25 QB pressures. High School Experience:
At Donaldson (LA) HS he was the #11 ranked DL in the nation where he was The Advocate Super Dozen '97 and the Times-Picayune Top 20 Blue-Chip List. Green was a member of the Atlanta Journal Constitution Super Southern 100, SuperPrep All-American, Superprep Southwest Defensive Player of the Year; Green ranked No. 5 in SuperPrep Louisiana 26 ... Class 3A Defensive MVP. He recorded 136 tackles (103 solo), with 42 for a loss and 16 sacks his senior year Contract Status: Was offered a mid-level tended for 1.43 million by the Patriots on 3/2/05.
