2005: Shelton's 25.5 yard per catch career average is just staggering. He's known as the fastest WR, but he does everything well. He has good hands, runs good routes, comes back for the ball; he can block, and goes after the ball aggressively. On top of that, he can go over the middle or stretch the defense. At 5'11", he's bigger than most fans think and plays even bigger. With a new offense and the improvement of Brady Quinn, expect Shelton to continue to put up huge numbers in his final year.
2004: Shelton might have been ND's MVP on offense. His 25.8 yards per catch average set a Notre Dame single season record. He led the team in receiving TDs with 4. He was 4th on the team in receptions (20), but 2nd in both receiving yards and receiving yards per game. He received his first career start against Washington…also started against Purdue and USC. He had two 100-yard receiving games, MSU (123) and Pitt (128).
2003: Shelton played in 11 of the 12 games. He saw limited action at WR in the early stages of the year, seeing most of his playing time on special teams. Matt started to emerge later in the season and caught his first career TD pass against Stanford.
2002: Played in 10 games...caught one pass for 18 yards. Played on special teams.
2001: Did not play as a freshman WR.
High School: Suffered an knee injury mid-way through his senior year. Rushed 39 times for 258 yards and 2 TDs. Caught 17 passes for 305 yards and 5 TDs, rushed for 325 yards on 62 carries as a junior. Scored five different ways (rushing, receiving, kickoff return, interception return and blocked kick return)Participated in track and baseball. Final Schools: Ohio St., Memphis, Duke, Vandy
