How Acquired: Ashworth was signed by the Patriots on April 8, 2003. Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the San Francisco 49ers (2001), Ashworth was signed and released by Patriots to their practice squad in 2001. Was signed to the active roster in 2002.
Scouting Report: Tom Ashworth has made significant strides in his game over the past two seasons. Once known primarily as just a good athlete, Ashworth has become a solid offensive tackle at the professional level. Not a dominating blocker, he has the ability to shutdown top-tier defensive ends due to his preparation, work ethic, and positioning. Comes out of his stance well, playing with leverage, uses his hands and arms well. Has experience on both right and left side. Ashworth has the tools to become a solid starting tackle in the league.
Personal: Born Thomas F. Ashworth on October 10, 1977 in Denver, Colo. Played both football and baseball at Cherry Creek High School in Englewood, Colorado. Won 5-A state championship in junior and senior years. Attended University of Colorado, graduating with a degree in business, December, 2000. Ashworth and wife Julia have one child, Brody. |
