How Acquired:
Signed by the Patriots to their practice squad January 2, 2006. Activated during the 2006 season. Re-signed as an EFRA June 1, 2007.
Scouting report:
Solid tackler with good speed. Able to play cornerback or safety. Athletic ability provides versatility to move between positions, including returning kicks. Able to use quickness to break on the ball.
2006 - present: Patriots
Spann has been on and off both the active roster and the practice squad. A special teams player, his contributions were called upon to play an extra defender during New England's 2006 playoff run. Re-signed to the Patriots' practice squad on Sept. 25, 2007.
Signed to the active roster Dec 28, 2007. Assigned a new jersey number (28) after his previous jersey (31) was assigned to Brandon Meriweather. DB Tory James wore #28 during the Patriots 2007 training camp.
2005: Giants
Attended the New York Giants minicamp May 6-8 and was signed May 17, 2005. Went through training camp with New York and was given his release August 30, 2005.
Colts:
Accepted an invitation to the Colts minicamp April 29th. Left without a contract.
College: Louisiana-Lafayette
Transfered from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College playing two seasons with Louisiana. Finished third on the 2004 Cajuns with 68 tackles (36 solo), four interceptions, nine passes defended. Returned four kickoffs for 109 yards. Played both cornerback and safety.
