How Acquired: Signed as an unrestricted free agent by the New England Patriots on August 9, 2008.

PRO:
(2007) New York Giants: Finished the year as a member of the Giants practice squad.

(2007) Baltimore Ravens: The Ravens signed Shoate to their practice squad on Dec. 12, 2007. Released by Baltimore prior to the end of the 2007 postseason, joined the Giants.

(2004-07) Denver Broncos: Selected by the Broncos in the fifth round of the 2004 NFL Draft (152nd overall).
2007: Appeared in 7 games for the Broncos, recording 8 tackles (6 solo) ... released by Denver on Dec. 4, 2007 ... 2006: A member of the Broncos practice squad ... 2005: Injured prior to the season, placed on IR (left knee) by Denver 8/31/05 ... 2004: Recorded 3 special teams tackles in 7 games as a rookie.

After playing 11 games as a freshman at Montana, Shoate transferred to San Diego State as a walk-on—sitting out the 2000 season due to transfer rules—and twice earned All-Mountain West Conference second-team honors (2002-03).

PERSONAL: Shoate played both quarterback and defensive back at Serra High School in San Diego. As a senior, he was named the Central League’s Offensive Player of the Year after throwing for 505 yards and adding 746 rushing yards while totaling 21 touchdowns ... Lettered in basketball and track and field, earning All-CIF honors as a hurdler. He earned a bachelor’s degree in public administration from San Diego State. Shoate resides in Aurora, Colo., with his wife, Ronisa, and 8-year-old son Jesiah. Jeff Shoate was born March 23, 1981, in San Diego.
