Bill Belichick Profile
Bill Belichick spent
a few minutes with Yahoo Sports' Jason Cole recently. In a lengthy Q&A
Belichick admitted that the deal to send Richard Seymour to the Oakland Raiders
for a first round pick may not have happened if the compensation were different.
"In the end you look at the level of compensation and you do it,"
Belichick said of the decision." Had it been for another level of compensation,
would we do it? Maybe not."
Belichick admitted that Seymour wasn't the only player the two organizations
discussed. The Patriots also made a trade with the Raiders for LB Derrick Burgess.
Eventually, the price ended up being right to move Seymour who was in the last
year of his current contract and carried a $9 million cap number.
"There were a number of players thrown around. I would say it was probably
24 to 48 hours with Seymour," Belichick told Cole. "They brought it
up.
Again, who's available on your team? Really, probably everybody is
available at the right price."
Cole asked the ultimate question. Did "everyone" mean Tom Brady?
Describing the importance of keeping young playmakers on the roster Belichck
admitted the answer would be negative. "Those guys are realistically not
available," Belichick said. "No."
