Kolby Smith Profile
The Kansas City Chiefs have activated RB Kolby Smith from the
Reserve/Physically-Unable-to-Perform List and waived veteran WR Bobby Engram,
the team announced Saturday.
Smith (5-11, 219) has played in 23 games (nine starts) with Kansas City, rushing
147 times for 507 yards (3.4 avg.) with three TDs and catching 32 passes for 200
yards (6.3 avg.). He also owns nine special teams tackles. He spent the final
eight games of the 2008 campaign on injured reserve after suffering a knee
injury vs. Tampa Bay (11/2/08). He entered the NFL as the first of the Chiefs
two fifth-round picks (148th overall) in the 2007 NFL Draft.
In 45 games (12 starts) at Louisville, Smith carried the ball 316 times for
1,892 yards (6.0 avg.) with 18 TDs and added 56 receptions for 581 yards (10.4
avg.) with two TDs. He prepped at Rickards High School in Tallahassee, Florida.
With starting RB Larry Johnson suspended for Sunday's game at the
Jacksonville Jaguars, Smith will see playing time in back of RB Jamaal
Charles, who will start the contest.
Engram played in five games for Kansas City in 2009, catching five passes for 61
yards. Engram has played in 176 regular season games (113 starts) with Chicago
(’96-99), Seattle (2000-08) and Kansas City (2009), owning 650 receptions for
7,751 yards (11.9 avg.) with 35 TDs.
Engram turned out to be a big disappointment for the Chiefs. Veteran WR Bobby
Wade wound up taking over his slot role in recent weeks and it was
inevitable that Engram wasn't going to be around much longer.
