Leigh Bodden has surgery to repair herniated

Former New England Patriots cornerback Leigh Bodden underwent surgery to repair a herniated disc in his lower back, according to his agent, Alvin Keels. According to Keels, Bodden got hurt against the Miami Dolphins in the season opener.

"It was a routine operation and he is expected to make a full recovery," Keels wrote on his Twitter account. "No time table has been set yet for his recovery. The injury is not career threatening, however he could not play any longer this season with out getting the condition corrected by surgery."

Bodden recently visited the Kansas City Chiefs after being cut by the Patriots, according to a league source.

> He played in five games with one start and no interceptions this year, deflecting four passes. Bodden is a former undrafted free agent from Duquesne.

Bodden has also played for the Detroit Lions and the Cleveland Browns, spending the first five seasons of his career in Cleveland. He has recorded 18 career interceptions, 362 tackles and 74 pass deflections.

Last year, he signed a four-year, $22 million deal with the Patriots that included $10 million in guaranteed money. However, Bodden spent last season on injured reserve with a shoulder injury.
