Ryan: 12th man will help Jets beat Patriots

Rex Ryan guarantees the New York Jets will beat the New England Patriots if the MetLife Stadium crowd shows up in full force on Sunday.

It's no secret that the New York Jets aren't particularly fond of the New England Patriots and Rex Ryan is never shy to add more fuel to this heated rivalry. In Ryan's first two years as head coach the Jets split regular season meetings with the Patriots as each team won on its home field.

In Ryan's inaugural season, the Jets smothered the Patriots 16-9 and were the last team to hold Tom Brady without a touchdown before the Bengals achieved that feat just two weeks ago. In 2011 and 2012, the Patriots whitewashed the Jets in all four meetings, the most memorable moment occurring on last Thanksgiving night on Mark Sanchez's infamous ‘butt fumble play.'

In Week 2 of the 2013 regular season, Brady and company eked out a 13-10 win up in Foxboro, a game that many Jets players and coaches felt got away. Nonetheless, New England has dominated this AFC East battle winning the last five contests between the two teams, but that hasn't stopped Ryan from guaranteeing a win on Sunday.

"If you make it like that, we're gonna beat this team," said Ryan of Jets fans creating a raucous atmosphere a la 2009.

Gang Green is in dire need of a win to stay within striking distance in the division and a viable threat in a crowded AFC playoff picture. Ryan understands the importance of getting back on the winning track and acknowledged that Bill Belichick has had the last laugh in recent seasons.

"I don't know who is going to be the judge or whatever with that," said Ryan of his coaching rivalry with Belichick. "Obviously, we haven't fared well the last several games against them, the last three years. We haven't beaten them. We've been close, but that doesn't matter."

It appears Ryan is getting sick and tired of coming out on the short end of the stick and he's imploring his team to empty its tank against the Patriots in Week 7.

"I know one thing. I'm going to keep competing, noted Ryan. "They'll get everything we have this week and they know it."
