Davey, 27, was drafted by the Patriots in the fourth round (117th overall) of the 2002 NFL Draft. In three seasons in New England, the 6-foot-2-inch, 245-pound signal caller played in seven games and completed eight-of-19 passes for 88 yards. The Louisiana State product played in NFL Europe in the spring of 2004, where he was named the 2004 NFL Europe League Offensive Player of the Year and led the Berlin Thunder to the World Bowl XII championship. That season, he led the league with 19 touchdown passes and a 105.9 passer rating, while starting all 11 games and leading Berlin to a 10-1 record.
